Help for the McSperrin Family
Brothers and Sisters, if you can spare any amount this holiday season for the family of one of our own, the McSperrin family is asking for any support for their son who was in a bad accident a few months ago. Please read below and any donation is greatly appreciated by the family.
Our oldest son Zack moved from Connecticut to Jacksonville, FL this spring to start a new career. On June 23, 2024, he was involved in a traffic accident with his motorcycle after a young woman ran a red light, causing Zack to collide with her car. Zack flew 45 feet in the air, resulting in serious injuries. Zack underwent surgery to fuse his back with 2 plates and 12 screws. His neck, shoulder, knee, and ankle also sustained serious injuries. To this day, he still does not have full use of his left arm. Zack had to wear a neck and back brace to perform simple everyday tasks. He is unable to start physical therapy until X-rays show the proper healing. His family has incurred travel expenses taking shifts from CT to FL to care for him.
We heard about the Florida healthcare system, and it is true - it’s terrible. There is no point person overlooking his care, and the communication between the doctors - well, there is none. Multiple doctors have ordered numerous tests such as MRIs, CT scans, and X-rays. Every time he sees a doctor, they send him to another specialist. At his last appointment on November 12th, Zack was told that he now needs another surgery – this surgery will be on the nerves in his shoulder and arm down to his hand to hopefully regain full or up to 85% mobility. The surgeon said this operation should have happened back in August. But no one contacted us. More tests have been ordered, and surgery will be in December. This is devastating because he was just able to return to work and now will have to take more time off, which is extremely costly. We learned that in Florida, drivers only have to pay the bare minimum for motor vehicle insurance, which the young woman had. She lives at home with her family who filed for bankruptcy back in April, so there is no way they can help pay for Zack’s medical expenses. We are setting up a GoFundMe campaign to help Zack with his medical expenses and recovery. Any donation you can make is appreciated!
